Subject: Icon and Linux
Errors-To: icon-group-errors@cs.arizona.edu
I have recently installed Linux on my P100 with 16 Meg. and since I
have run Icon 9 with X extensions on another machine (DG AViiON using
DGUX) I am curious about getting Icon up and running on my home
machine. I picked up the binary which is on the ftp site in Arizona
but it would appear to have a slight problem. Icont runs fine but a
compiled Icon program has a reference to a home path id of the author
of the compiled Icon source (I presume). I can get around this by
executing using Iconx <filename> but it is not optimal. Iconc is also
giving me problems which are once again being caused by this other
person's home pathname being somehow present. Do I need to get the source
and compile from scratch?
I am also wondering about getting X support up and running, since I am
able to run XWindows under Linux and would like to have Icon running
in graphics mode. I would especially like to be running Iconc under X
and compiling graphics programs.
If there is anyone out there who has gone through all of this with
Linux and Icon, then I would be interested in hearing from you.
